Tourist for a Day

Ketchikan, Alaska: The last weekend in May before the cruise ships start coming is "Tourist for a Day" weekend. This is when all the tours try out their season's skills on the locals for next-to-nothing. The zipline that costs $179 is only $25, the Lumberjack Show is free if you bring a canned good. Duck tours, bus tours, adventure carts, snorkeling, even a ride on a boat from tv's The Deadliest Catch...if you can dream it, you can do it. (for a nominal fee)

The tour buses are literally lined up and waiting...

(see?)

We decided to go all out, everything we can do, we will do.

(the only rule is that we have to do it together...so that means ziplines and the like are out until the kids are big enough to meet the weight requirements)

First we did some window shopping (that's what tourists do), then we bought some candy (I don't know why, but they do that too...a lot), then we ate some candy while walking around (what can I say, tourists are kind of boring), then we went to lunch at a local establishment, then on to the Rainforest Sanctuary Tour.

We have a long list of to-do's this weekend, when it's all said and done I'll post the best of the best.
